A Deserving Cause and a Great Car Show

Glenmore Park Town Centre is gearing up to produce yet another fantastic hot rod and custom car show.
The 2010 Charity Hot Rod & Custom Car Show will be held on Sunday 8th August at Glenmore Park Town Centre from 10am.
Mayor Kevin Crameri OAM will launch the day at 10am. The day will prove to be well worth a visit for all families, young and old to help a great cause and to have a fun day out.
With hundreds of striking and incredible hot rod and custom cars on display, there will be loads of fun stuff for the kids, jumping castle and a baby animal farm just to name a few. Popular dance and hip-hop sensation The Next Step will be onstage from 12pm!
With a great event organised, the great cause is no less important. Six years ago little Nicholas Hodge was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and was rushed to Nepean Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, where the staff put his parent’s minds at ease.
‘We are still very keen to show our gratitude to the staff that saved our little boy’ explains Dean and Denise Hodge from local pizza shop Dino’s Pizza. Dino’s Pizza have hosted the Charity Hot Rod & Custom Car show for the past 5 years to raise funds to purchase vital medical equipment.
All moneys raised will go directly to the Nepean Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, including all proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets and entertainment tickets. Spokesperson from Nepean Neonatal Unit Carolyn Blake said ‘we are so excited to be a part of this Car Show and are appreciative of the donations and funds raised’.
Glenmore Park Town Centre is at 1 Town Terrace in Glenmore Park with over 20 specialty stores, KFC, McDonald’s restaurant and full-line Woolworths supermarket.

Haidong Gumdo

After teaching Taekwondo in Glenmore Park for 9 years, Nepean Wolves are now offering Haidong Gumdo Haidong Gumdo is a sword martial art which draws from Korean battlefield tactics and techniques to build a curriculum for mental, physical and spiritual development. Students of Haidong Gumdo learn meditation and proper breathing exercises that will relieve stress and promote a healthy body and mind. Although most people will not have heard of the name, Haidong Gumdo is now one of the fastest growing martial arts in the world.
After teaching Taekwondo in Glenmore Park for the past 9 years Nepean Wolves now also offers Haidong Gumdo.The Haidong Gumdo syllabus covers the practice of basic techniques (kibon), forms (pumsae), step sparring (yaksuk daeryun), sparring (hada), energy building exercises (qi gong) and cutting practice (begi).
Nepean Wolves Haidong Gumdo instructor, Luke Adlam, is currently training for the World Haidong Gumdo games following his success at the 2009 National Championships

Fun in the Sun at Glenmore Park

More than 500 residents celebrated a Family Fun Day at Penrith City Council’s $6 million state-of-the-art Glenmore Park Child and Family Precinct recently.
Penrith City Mayor Kevin Crameri OAM said the Family Fun Day was a great opportunity for local residents to get a first look at the centre and adventure playground and what it has to offer them and their families.
“Penrith City Council’s child care centre staff provided a huge range of activities and equipment for the many children who attended.
“The water play stations, face painting and play dough were particularly popular,” Councillor Crameri said.
“The day also gave parents a chance to check out the great new facility and speak with staff about available child care options at the centre. Penrith City Council received about 25 applications for enrolment at the centre on the day.”
The Australian Breast Feeding Association – Hawkesbury/Nepean conducted demonstration classes for expectant parents and the professional rooms were also open for the public to inspect.
Brighter Futures, Mission Australia and Spyns Inc provided a range of exciting activities including opportunities for children to engage in storytelling, reading and craft and music activities while there were always long lines at the jumping castle and the petting zoo.
Penrith Rotary Club kept the barbeques fired up and managed to distribute 400 sausage and onion sandwiches in under two hours.

Fun at the Town centre

You may have noticed some extra activity going on once a month on Saturday mornings at Glenmore Park shops. At Glenmore Park Anglican Church, we love meeting people in our Community! Throughout the year we have many opportunities to do this, but for us, one of the highlights is our once a month Saturday mornings at Gloria Jeans. From 10am to Midday, outside Gloria Jeans, our Church is at the shops meeting people. We put on live music, free face painting & we make balloon animals for the children, as well as giving out information about our Church. We also give out free books of the Bible & give handouts to let people know about our kids & youth groups, Parenting Courses & other special events.
We love meeting you all & it is always great to have conversations with you, catching up with old friends & getting to know others we haven’t met before. We have also had some great conversations with people wanting to find out more about Jesus. We’ll back at the shops on Saturday 1st May, so come & say hello & enjoy a coffee while listening to some music. You might even like to get your face painted! We’d love to see you!

Winning Costume

Stephanie Ornelas won the prestigious Textiles award with a Fairy Costume suitable for the Wizard of Oz fairy inspired by a school production of the Wizard of Oz. The quality of the meticulously completed folio was as important as the product. The costume demonstrated diverse skills in fabric manipulation
Over two thousand students submitted Textile articles and only 49 were chosen to be displayed in Sydney and to be part of a travelling exhibition of regional NSW.
This is a fantastic achievement and reflects Stephanie’s hard work and her teacher Mrs Melissa Mills’ guidance and expertise.

Pollies at School

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education Julia Gillard and Federal Member for Lindsay, David Bradbury, met with local school principals at Glenmore Park Public School recently to discuss the roll-out of the Building the Education Revolution program in the local community.
Glenmore Park Public School is receiving $3 million for new classroom facilities.
Federal Member for Lindsay, David Bradbury said ”This is the largest school modernisation in Australia’s history, and is helping to stimulate the economy by investing in much-needed infrastructure in our primary and secondary schools and supporting local jobs”.
“I would like to thank Glenmore Park Public School for hosting the forum and to all the school principals who came along on the day, and I look forward to continuing to work with all of our local schools as the stimulus package funding is progressively rolled out.”

Billy Kart Bonanza

Surveyors Creek Public School very first Billy Kart Bonanza was a very successful day. Everyone involved had the most wonderful time. There were Billy Karts of many shapes and sizes for the children to ride. They were all extremely excited and look forward to another wonderful Billy Kart Bonanza in the future.
To allow a day like Billy Kart Bonanza to not only run but be as great as it was, takes a lot of time and preparation.

We need to thank everyone involved in the day. Teachers and parents of our children did a wonderful job in creating a memory for our children that will be treasured for years to come.
