Glenmore Park residents met at Floribunda Community Centre for the first GPAG meeting of 2011 on the 8th February. It was encouraging to see an increase in the attendance.
Ken Innes, Chair of GPAG, welcomed Commander Ben Feszczuk who gave an update on crime statistics in Glenmore Park. Brendan Sheedy, Glenmore Park Town Centre Manager, gave an update on the new development application for the centre lodged before Christmas. It is now time to provide feedback on what is being proposed. The discussion about the road going through the town centre showed that no one wants it there, except it seems PCC staff. GPAG has lobbied Council since 2005 to have the road closed.
Mary Cook, Secretary of GPAG raised the traffic problems on Mulgoa Road. With over 10 sets of lights between Glenmore Parkway and Penrith CBD and add the roadworks and road rage comes to mind. Mary had taken photos that she presented to the meeting when an accident had occurred at the new multi million dollar lights at Jamison Rd intersection after nearly an hour that day to get from Glenmore Parkway exit to Penrith CBD.
Mary said “One of the bigger concerns coming back into Glenmore Park is that people are turning right across Mulgoa Rd to enter the new 7-Eleven. There needs to be a barrier preventing this and people should use common sense and use the roundabout to do a u-turn and enter 7-Eleven safely” .
Cr Prue Guillame gave her local council report as she has done each meeting since being elected to Penrith City Council. She is the patron of the Glenmore Park Brumbies and an update on the upgrades to the local playing facilities for both rugby league and soccer was welcome. Cr Guillame spoke of her involvement with GPAG and how proud she has been to have the opportunity to work with local residents. She has stepped down from her role as Vice President of GPAG as she is the Labor candidate for Mulgoa in the coming state election and GPAG is non political.
Cr Guillame said “I am not going to make huge promises to the meeting, I will speak up for the community, I have shown this through Council and I will continue if elected for the State Member for Mulgoa”.
Lastly the local Glenmore Park Community worker from Nepean Community and Neighborhood Services informed the meeting of the upcoming events and activities.
For more information please contact Domenica, 4733 1499
The next GPAG community
meeting is 10th May, 7.30pm.

Dayton Tavares, the 14 year old from Glenmore Park has been starring as Billy in the Broadway production of Billy Elliot. He performed in Sydney and Melbourne before getting the invitation to star in the Broadway production nearly a year ago.
Dayton was recently chosen to dance at the inaugural performance of the new White House Dance Series. The Washington Times reported ‘Hosting the event was Michelle Obama, who brought along daughters Sasha and Malia _ just home from their first day of school _ and mom Marian Robinson, too. The first lady clapped along to some of the dances but leaped to a standing ovation when Dayton Tavares, one of Broadway’s high-flying Billy Elliots, finished his song, “Electricity,” with a virtuoso set of turns’. You can see the video on Youtube – ‘Billy Elliot at the White House’.
Dayton is now living in New York with his mother. His father and sisters still live in Glenmore Park but they keep in touch every day. What an amazing opportunity for such a young dancer.

The 2010 Charity Hot Rod & Custom Car Show will be held on Sunday 8th August at Glenmore Park Town Centre from 10am.
Mayor Kevin Crameri OAM will launch the day at 10am. The day will prove to be well worth a visit for all families, young and old to help a great cause and to have a fun day out.
With hundreds of striking and incredible hot rod and custom cars on display, there will be loads of fun stuff for the kids, jumping castle and a baby animal farm just to name a few. Popular dance and hip-hop sensation The Next Step will be onstage from 12pm!
With a great event organised, the great cause is no less important. Six years ago little Nicholas Hodge was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and was rushed to Nepean Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, where the staff put his parent’s minds at ease.
‘We are still very keen to show our gratitude to the staff that saved our little boy’ explains Dean and Denise Hodge from local pizza shop Dino’s Pizza. Dino’s Pizza have hosted the Charity Hot Rod & Custom Car show for the past 5 years to raise funds to purchase vital medical equipment.
All moneys raised will go directly to the Nepean Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, including all proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets and entertainment tickets. Spokesperson from Nepean Neonatal Unit Carolyn Blake said ‘we are so excited to be a part of this Car Show and are appreciative of the donations and funds raised’.
Glenmore Park Town Centre is at 1 Town Terrace in Glenmore Park with over 20 specialty stores, KFC, McDonald’s restaurant and full-line Woolworths supermarket.

Helicopter Visit:
Residents were surprised to see an army Black Hawk helicopter landing in Glenmore Park.
It actually landed in the school grounds and was part of an Army promotion. School principal Ms Brookton said “Year 7 students were given the opportunity to closely inspect the Black Hawk with the specific instructions not to touch any red buttons. Under the watchful eyes of the crew, all our students obtained a greater understanding of the Black Hawk and its crew. GPHS would like thank the Army for the opportunity to gain an insight into the exciting life of Australia’s Armed Forces.”
Commando training:
Year 12 student Josh Matheson has been helping to prepare a group of students for the 6km commando course called the Tough Bloke Challenge which is on 3rd July in Appin.
It is part of the gym program which has been running for 12 months to encourage young students to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. In the past few weeks small groups from the program have ventured into the Blue Mountains to take on the notorious Knapsack Stairs and other challenging tracks in preparation.
The students get to school early 2 mornings a week for an hours training.

You may have noticed some extra activity going on once a month on Saturday mornings at Glenmore Park shops. At Glenmore Park Anglican Church, we love meeting people in our Community! Throughout the year we have many opportunities to do this, but for us, one of the highlights is our once a month Saturday mornings at Gloria Jeans. From 10am to Midday, outside Gloria Jeans, our Church is at the shops meeting people. We put on live music, free face painting & we make balloon animals for the children, as well as giving out information about our Church. We also give out free books of the Bible & give handouts to let people know about our kids & youth groups, Parenting Courses & other special events.
We love meeting you all & it is always great to have conversations with you, catching up with old friends & getting to know others we haven’t met before. We have also had some great conversations with people wanting to find out more about Jesus. We’ll back at the shops on Saturday 1st May, so come & say hello & enjoy a coffee while listening to some music. You might even like to get your face painted! We’d love to see you!
Rev John Lavender • Glenmore Park Anglican Church • Cnr William Howell Dr & Pritchard Pl • www.glenmorepark.anglican.asn.au • Sundays @ 8.30 & 10.15am, 5 & 7pm plus activities for adults & young people right throughout the week.
