Recent rains have filled the two rainwater tanks to capacity that exist on Glenmore Park High School’s Sustainability Gardens. The tanks were incorporated into the school’s science facilities as a result of a successful application to the Federal Government’s Schools Rainwater Tank Scheme.
To further the sustainability of this project, the school composts organic material such as kitchen scraps and lawn clippings. Once considered as waste, these materials are now considered to be a valuable resource for the vegetable gardens.
Students are closely involved with the maintenance of the gardens which also include the keeping of animals including chickens and sheep. It is intended that the Sustainability Gardens will be an important part of the teaching of Agriculture as from 2011.
